ABOUT US

URGENT, INC.

THIS IS OUR STORY

Est. 1994. URGENT, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) Miami, FL based youth and community development organization dedicated to empowering young minds to transform their communities. Guided by the principles of innovation, growth and transformation URGENT sees young people as the drivers of change and works to provide empowering opportunities to create the next generation of social change agents.

Rising out of the ashes of the 80's riots and the depressed urban economy of the 90's, Urban Renewal Greater Enhancement National Team (URGENT) was founded in 1994 by a small group of concerned residents who wanted to see change in Miami's urban core. Now a youth and community development corporation, URGENT celebrates 25 years of service to the Miami!

The purpose of the Campaign for Girls Well-Being is to promote the well-being of girls in the spheres of education, economics, health and education. In doing so, the Campaign seeks to elevate the voice of girls in the public discourse through leadership development, education, advocacy training, research and community organizing.

Rites of Passage Youth Media Project

The Rites of Passage (ROP) Youth Media Project is an arts enrichment program designed to inspire middle school girls to critically examine, research, and reflect on the issues that impact their lives and communities using video, photography, poetry and performance. Youth gain access to their voice and use the arts to elevate important conversations on important topics.

Murals for Dorsey Park

The Murals for Dorsey Park Program is a community arts, youth literacy promotion and community engagement initiative designed to engage young artists in the revitalization of Overtown, Miami's Dorsey Park with murals created collaboratively to commemorate it as the historic home of Negro League Baseball in S. Youth Empowerment After School

This program provides elementary school boys and girls an alternative to their hectic day by providing a safe place after school where they find peace and love in a supportive nurturing environment that helps them discover their hidden talents, build skills and identify their multiple intelligences. Students begin their afternoon by taking part in a welcoming non-traditional opening circle where the breath is king; peace rules the day and self-love is unabashedly celebrated. From taking part in impromptu skits, playing African drums, learning life skills or building physical stamina there is never a dull moment when kids gain access to their unique and special gifts to share with the world. All this happens at the Youth Empowerment After School Program!

Youth Empowerment Summer Camp (YES!)

YES! Camp provides a unique gender specific safe space where girls are able to dream, explore, reflect and find their own voice to express the person they are becoming. For girls, as they approach adolescence, they face all kinds of challenges from society: pressure to be perfect, expectations about beauty, beliefs about food and eating, and more. It's a pivotal time in a girl's life, when their whole world is starting to change, inside and out. This is the time to strengthen girls’ sense of self and that inner belief in who they are that will see her through the teen years. These themes are explored through the arts, drama, dance, arts & crafts, yoga, cultural music, fitness, literacy and etiquette.
